Britta Bergström-Jungell
Artist | Traditional Art
Finland
I was born on the 26th of December in 1950 in the town of Vasa, a relatively small town on the Finnish westcoast. I spent my early years in Övermark, or Valsberg, a village situated near the neighbouring municipality of Teuva, Finland.
I currently live in Närpes, Finland.
In 1969 I took my matriculation examination at Kristinestads Samlyceum, Finland. Then I started to study for a lower university degree at the Faculty of Arts at Åbo Akademi University in Turku, Finland. The main subject was the English language and literature, other subjects were German, pedagogics and philosophy. After graduating I studied at the Faculty of Education in Vasa, Finland, to get a teaching competence.
At this time my interest in art awakened. Earlier I had been occupied mainly with organ music, but now it was art that counted. I started to take courses in oil painting. My interest grew which meant that I also started to take an interest in aquarelle- and pastel painting. The difficult art of the aquarelle painting technique I learned at the inspiring and encouraging art courses held by Heli Sammalisto, a Finnish artist from Southwest Finland.
I have also attended evening courses in porcelain painting and glass melting, more exactly, melting of glass for making jewellery. Besides I have done a lot of self-study.
What concerns my painting one could thus say that I work with the painting techniques oil, aquarelle and pastel in a traditional style trying to develop a personal style of my own.The motifs are mostly idyllic wooden house milieus, landscapes, still life, flowers etc. When painting landscapes, nature itself is my best teacher. I want to have a naturalistic approach to my landscape painting.
